Many Hats Shot by Fanny Chu
May 21, 2025
One day while I was back home in LA, my dear photographer friend Fanny messaged me that she wanted to do a black and white photoshoot based on a bunch of inspo she saw online. The theme was vintage hats and luckily for me, my mom had a bunch of vintage hats of her own.
The tradition of wearing a hat feels like it’s been lost to time. And when I say hats, I specifically mean those other than baseball hats or those souvenir hats that you might find yourself impulsively buying at a merch counter.
Hats in many ways feel dated, old fashioned, and stuffy, so it was a lovely experience to restyle and rewear hats from my mother and grandmother’s collection. Each hat felt like it had its own personality sewn into it. From my mom’s big floppy hat to my grandmother’s veiled beret, I felt like each hat transformed me into a different character within in a different era of time.
I drove the long way up to Pasadena on a weeknight to shoot with Fanny, who built her own small yet efficient in-home studio for our little shoot. Here are some of my favorite photos:
As always, thank you for being here!
Much love from Paris,
Kiana
